the hub

The people at the hub

the hub team is led by the hub’s two directors, Julia Payne and Wendy Smithers, and is known for its innovative thinking and commitment to excellence; its experience and entrepreneurialism, and for its integrity. We value our independence; we’re excited by working with people who share our values, and are intent on making a difference.

The size, shape and make-up of the team enables us to actively change – and react dynamically to changes in – our cultural landscape. Between us we have over forty years’ experience of professional arts development, gained through working in and with organisations in music and across the arts, as well as in other commercial settings outside of the cultural sector.

Each member of the team is a specialist in our own field, and we bring to the hub our own knowledge, skills and points of view. We all share a real desire to develop and share new thinking and practice; our own as well as that of their peers. It’s this combination of specialist skills and a desire to make a difference to our cultural landscape that characterises the hub team.
Our commitment to enabling people to achieve their potential starts at home. We run an internship programme that gives individuals the opportunity to become part of the team, by working on specific projects or by developing their own pieces of research.
