New Work
A culmination of Francisco’s five week residency at
Laban, working with Year 3 performance students. Although
barely 40, Camacho is one of the elder-statesmen of Portuguese
dance. He began his career as a dancer in 1984 with the Balled
Gulbenkian, and then studied with Merce Cunningham, Chris Komar
and Jennifer Muller. The performance is an opportunity to
see emerging young dancers nurtured and inspired by this leading
choreographer.

Private Dancer
Presented for the first time in the UK, the highly acclaimed Private Dancer (Danças Privadas) is Portuguese dance
at its best – daring, irreverent and sexually charged.
In this piece you are invited to book an appointment for a
given time, when Francisco will create an original dance
for you and you alone. When making the appointment, you (the
client) can select the costume he will wear and the music
he will dance to. Your ticket includes a ‘commission
fee’ according to the length of dance that Francisco
will create for you. As you commissioned and helped
create the work, after the performance you will receive
a co-production certificate. As the dance is created according to each
individual, there is no age restriction for the audience.
Private Dancer questions the role of the artist, audience
and producer and the relationships between them. If you want
to attend, buy your ticket quickly – some tickets and
commissions for Private Dancer will be auctioned on eBay.
